Eight delegates were elected to the PSEA-Retired House of Delegates at the NWPSEA-Retired fall luncheon on September 15th. Representing NWPSEA-Retired will be David Smith, Becky Travis, Joe Bellan;, Kevin Kantz, Marla Pellegrino, Pat Wilson, Ginny Barrett, and Tom Brunner. Jessie Rathbun will be an alternate. Also representing NWPSEA-Retired will be the region officers, President Ron Bennett, Vice President Richard Eberlin, and Secretary-Treasurer Janet Peterson as per NWPSEA-Retired Constitution and By-Laws.
Former PSEA President Mike Crossey was the keynote speaker. This was Crossey's first speaking engagement since retiring. Crossey told about his pathway to becoming a teacher, a union leader, and finally, president of PSEA. Crossey stressed the importance of the upcoming election for three Supreme Court justices, one Commonwealth judge and one Commonwealth Court judge. Many of our issues may end up being heard in one of these courts. Crossey, also, gave an update on the legislative activities in Harrisburg on our pension system, the budget, and other issues of importance.
President Ron Bennett reported on a variety of topics including future PSEA-Retired Board of Directors meeting dates, the reporting of retirees by locals, pension reform plans, PSEA-Retired Sue Jone's election to the NEA-Retire Executive Board, and the increase in NWPSEA-Retired's membership which caused us to have increased representation at the retired House of Delegates.
The Spring Luncheon will be held on Tuesday, May 10., 2016
